Ilkay Gündogan believes that Borussia Dortmund can claim the championship title in the Bundesliga. “The home games against Atletico and FC Bayern were very strong,” wrote ex-Borusse Gündogan on his Instagram profile.
The national player was “really surprised by the BVB this season”. “I think they can make it,” says Gündogan, who warned against writing off the Bavarians. The reigning champions “still have a chance to win the league”.
Gündogan was under contract to Borussia between 2011 and 2016. Pep Guardiola played a major role in his move to Manchester City: “Despite my long injury break, he was still interested in me and told me personally. Then I knew that it was the right step to dare a new adventure,” explained Gündogan.
The Premier League considers the national player “the toughest and most competitive league in the world”. “This may not be apparent from the UEFA coefficient. But this does not reflect, for example, the strength of the lower half of the table,” says Gündogan.
