Bundesliga: Fortuna fights for whereabouts of FCB shock

Fortuna Düsseldorf wants to retain their new goal scorer Dodi Lukebakio beyond the season. “Of course, we’ll try to keep him. But it is clear that this will be extremely difficult,” said Supervisory Board Chairman Reinhold Ernst to the Westdeutsche Zeitung.

The 21-year-old Belgian, who had caused a furore last Saturday with his three goals at the 3-3 Fortuna in a guest appearance at Bayern Munich, had been loaned out by FC Watford before the season without an option to buy.

“There’s no way to commit him. He will go back to Watford”, Fortuna coach Friedhelm Funkel said on Sunday at Sky Sport News HD.

Ernst, however, sees a chance for Lukebakio to stay with the Rhinelanders.

The boss of the supervisory board also announced in the fight for class retention that Funkel could count on new staff during the winter break: “We have signalled internally that we have released a significant sum of money”. It was possible to take a certain risk.

In addition, Ernst announced that a full-time sports executive board would participate in the obligations as of the new year. A hot candidate for this post is Lutz Pfannenstiel.

The former goalkeeper is currently working for TSG Hoffenheim as assistant to manager Alexander Rosen, where he is particularly active in scouting.
