Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre has expressed understanding for the protests of the football fans and has spoken out clearly against Bundesliga matches on Monday.
“I would totally ban all games on Monday. That’s ridiculous,” said Favre after the BVB’s 2-0 win against SC Freiburg, after the Dortmund fans had largely remained silent in the first 45 minutes.
“I regret it for us because they bring us much when they are there and loud. We like it and we need it,” said Favre, but stressed: “I totally understand the people protesting.”
The German Football League (DFL) had recently decided to abolish the unloved Monday games for the 2021/22 season.
Nevertheless, league-wide protests by fans against the increasing commercialisation of football continue.
