Bundesliga: Breitner vs. Hoeneß: Emperor wants to mediate

Franz Beckenbauer wants to mediate in the dispute between Uli Hoeneß and Paul Breitner. A transfer from Mathijs de Ligt to the FCB will be difficult. Arsene Wenger’s advisor was allegedly already in the Allianz Arena.

Here you can find all news and rumours about FC Bayern:

Franz Beckenbauer hopes for a reconciliation between the two opponents in the fierce dispute between Uli Hoeneß and Paul Breitner. “I wish the two of them would get back together. This should be possible between two adult people,” the honorary president of Bayern Munich told Bild. The “Emperor” would even make himself available as a conciliator: “If I can contribute to this, I am of course prepared to do so.”

The relationship between the once fat buddies Hoeneß and Breitner is severely strained. After Breitner had recently criticised the Bavarian president and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge after their controversial press conference, the club reacted by banishing the former captain from the VIP area.

They had “jointly decided that he was no longer welcome in the Guest of Honour area of the Allianz Arena,” said CFO Jan-Christian Dreesen at Spiegel online. The “more than disparaging remarks about FC Bayern and its acting persons” in the programme Blickpunkt Sport had been the reason.

Breitner had already reacted to the events the day before.

Uli Hoeneß had recently announced a major change in the squad for the record champion this coming summer.

In view of the major defensive problems, the FCB is said to be looking for reinforcements there in particular. One candidate: Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax Amsterdam. The only 19-year-old centre-back jewel made an impression not least during the Dutch guest appearance in Munich in the Champioons League (1:1) by an unusual callousness for his youth.

Ajax coach Erik ten Haag, however, gives the FCB less hope in the campaign for de Ligt: “All the top 6 clubs in Europe are behind Matthijs and Frenkie (de Jong, editor’s note),” ten Haag said in the Sport Bild. The teenager, who is currently estimated at around 50 million euros, would certainly not be a bargain. “There are no more exit clauses. The price is determined by Ajax.”

According to the Spanish media, a first meeting between the centre-back and Eric Abidal, FC Barcelona’s sports director, has already taken place.

Even if Niko Kovac can breathe a sigh of relief after his victory against Benfica, the rumours about his replacement do not stop.

As the Munich tz reports, last Saturday Alexander Wacker, advisor to the hotly traded Arsene Wenger, sat on the grandstand of the Allianz Arena at the 3:3 against Fortuna Düsseldorf.

At least a brief contact with President Uli Hoeneß is said to have taken place. Pikant: Wacker has been a member of Bavaria for many years and had already placed several players with the FCB, including Bixente Lizarazu.
