Bundesliga: Bavarian talent decides against DFB

The talent Frank Evina of FC Bayern Munich decided against Germany and Cameroon for the national team.

“It has never been an easy decision because both nations have very competitive and talented teams. However, I believe that the entry into Cameroon is the best choice for my career. Germany means a lot to me. I’m with one of the best clubs in the world and there’s a part of me that feels German,” said the 18-year-old in an interview with BBC Sport.

After his naturalization Evina celebrated his debut for the German U18 in November 2017. Evina’s role model Samuel Eto’o was also the reason for the decision. “I’ve always admired him, he’s a wonderful striker and I wanted to play like him. The idea of playing like my role model for Cameroon was too attractive to ignore,” Evina said.

The youngster made his Bundesliga debut against Eintracht Frankfurt in April, and a month later signed a professional contract with FC Bayern until 2021.
